bcHub is the spine of b current, where training, play development, as well as outreach and community initiatives converge.
The bcHub serves as a community and physical hub for professional artists who identify as Black, Indigenous or People of Colour.
Our Artistic Director, Jajube Mandiela’s vision for the bcHub mirrors the West African griot tradition. Griots are professional storytellers, born into a familial tradition of other griots, who reflect and comment on their communities through song, dance, and spoken word with the intent of preserving legacy and bettering their communities.
The bcHub is comprised of three types of members:
Core Griots – meet them here!
Core Griots are professional artists who are seeking to become excellent practitioners in all aspects of theatre, from creation through to production.
Core Griots are the nucleus of the bcHub: professional development programming matches their artistic needs, with company support for community and outreach projects, and select projects receive intensive development support.
Guiding Griots design and facilitate the entire bcHub program as well as specific projects. They provide Core Griots with artistic and business guidance and support, as well as connecting them to Guest Griots.
Guest Griots support specific bcHub projects through invitation by Guiding & Core Griots.
